What slows Roofing quoting down
A full tear-off, a storm repair, a standing-seam bid — different quote shapes, usually rebuilt from whatever you sent last, with the flashing and disposal lines forgotten on the busy weeks.
Roofs are priced from measurements, and measurements mean a ladder, a drive across town, or a report you paid for — so half the quoting time is spent before a single line is written.
Generic tools skip what actually moves a roofing price — squares and pitch, layers to tear off, deck condition, steepness and access, and what the disposal really costs.
What the playbook sets up on day one
All structure, no numbers — the scaffold your quotes hang on.
- Intake guidance for Studio: it separates full replacement from repair from overlay up front, then establishes what moves the price — roof area in squares and predominant pitch (Setell can pre-fill measured values from the job address for you to confirm), layers to tear off, deck condition and repair allowance, the material system by name, flashing, penetrations and ventilation, steepness and access, and disposal.
- Three starter quote structures, by name: Full Replacement — Tear-off (tear-off and disposal, deck and underlayment, roofing, flashing and ventilation, and labor as grouped sections), Repair Visit (diagnostic-first, for leaks and storm damage), and Metal Roof — Standing Seam. Structure only — every price field starts unset.
- Crew-and-equipment profile hints in roofing language — trailers, ladder hoist, staging, the work you sub out like gutters and chimney masonry, your shingle line and the distributor you order from — so Studio speaks your setup from the start.
- A payment-terms suggestion (“Deposit at signing, balance on completion”) plus integration nudges: QuickBooks so Setell learns your real material and labor costs, inbound email so storm calls and referrals land as drafts, and the Deal Room so homeowners approve and sign from their phone.
What Setell learns from your own data
The playbook is the scaffold. The pricing comes from you.
- Your real material and labor costs from QuickBooks history — shingles, underlayment, crew time — mined from your recent invoices before your first Setell quote goes out.
- Your accepted quotes — every signed replacement and repair sharpens your per-customer baselines, so suggestions converge on your numbers, not a national per-square book.
- Your revision patterns — which lines homeowners question after the adjuster meeting and where you actually land, learned from your own history.
- The receipts behind every number — suggested prices show their work on every line, so your bid holds up next to two competing storm quotes.
Structure on day one. Your prices, not ours.
A playbook never includes prices. Day one it gives you your trade’s structure; connect QuickBooks and Setell learns from what you actually paid and charged — and shows its work on every line.

Does the playbook come with pricing?
No — structure only. It sets up intake questions, phased starter structures, and profile hints; every price field starts unset. Pricing comes from your own data: connect QuickBooks and Setell learns from what you actually paid and charged — and shows its work on every suggested line.
Is the playbook free?
Yes. Applying a playbook is free — it is the starting scaffold for your account, not a paid add-on.
Does it measure the roof for me?
Where coverage allows, Setell can pre-fill measured roof values — area and pitch — from the job address, and Studio asks you to confirm them rather than re-deriving behind your back. Where coverage is thin, your own measurements drop into the same structure. Either way the measurement feeds the squares and linear-foot lines; it never invents a price.
Does it cover repairs and storm work or just full replacements?
Both. The cluster covers asphalt shingle, metal, and flat and low-slope systems alongside repairs — with a diagnostic-first Repair Visit structure for leaks and storm damage, and a dedicated standing-seam structure for metal bids.
How do I apply it?
Three ways: pick it during onboarding, ask Studio in the app (“set me up with the roofing playbook”), or call the setell_apply_playbook MCP tool from your own agent.
What happens if I apply it again later?
Re-applying is safe. Setell returns a report of what it applied and what it skipped — and it never overwrites structures or settings you have edited.
Can I change the starter structures?
Yes — they become your templates the moment they are applied. Rename them, add or remove lines, change units, or set a different default.
