Talk to Boxx (voice)

Overview

Hands full? Don't type — talk. Tap the mic in Boxx, say what you need, and Boxx turns your words into a message and answers. Good for the shop floor, the truck, or when typing on a phone is a pain.

Before you start

  • A device with a microphone (your laptop or phone has one).
  • Open Setell over a secure (https) connection — your browser only allows the mic on secure sites.
  • The first time, your browser asks permission to use the mic. Tap Allow.

Steps

  1. Open Boxx (the bubble, or press ⌘J).
  2. Tap the mic button next to the message box.
  3. The button turns red and you'll see Recording — …s · tap mic to send. Say what you need — for example, "Quote 50 brackets for Northwest Fabrication."
  4. Tap the mic again to stop. Boxx shows Transcribing…, drops your words into the box, and sends them.
Recordings cap at 60 seconds — plenty for a normal request. The timer shows how long you've been talking.

What happens next

  • Your speech becomes text, then Boxx answers the same way it would if you'd typed — drafting a quote, pulling up a job, writing a follow-up.
  • Nothing about the rules changes when you use voice: a quote still waits for your OK before it goes out (see docs/autonomy/overview).
  • If your browser doesn't support the main method, Boxx automatically falls back to your browser's own voice typing — same mic button, same result.

Troubleshooting

  • No mic button. Your browser doesn't support voice input. Try Chrome, Edge, or Safari.
  • "Microphone access was denied." Click the mic icon in your browser's address bar and allow access, then tap the mic in Boxx again.
  • "Voice input requires HTTPS." You're on an insecure connection. Open Setell over https and retry.
  • "No speech detected." Speak a little closer to the mic, in a quieter spot, and try again.
  • It heard you wrong. The text lands in the box before sending — read it, fix any words, and hit send.
  • Still stuck → docs/reference/troubleshooting.

FAQ

  • Do I have to talk in a special way? No — talk normally, the way you'd ask a coworker.
  • Can I fix what it heard before it sends? Your words land in the message box. If it auto-sends and got something wrong, just say it again or type the fix.
  • How long can I talk? Up to 60 seconds per recording.
  • Does it work on my phone? Yes — open Setell in your phone's browser and tap the mic.
