Docs / Deal Room
Contract signing (e-sign)
Overview
When a job needs a signature, your customer signs it right in the Deal Room — no printing, no scanning, no separate signing app. They read the contract, sign with their finger or by typing their name, and you get the signed copy back.
Turning on e-signature defaults is a Pro feature. You set it once in Settings (or flip it per job). The signing itself is free for your customer — they just open the link.
What your customer sees
- A Contract tab in the Deal Room with the PDF shown right on the page (they can also download it).
- A checkbox to confirm they've read it.
- A signature box where they can Draw or Type their name.
- A small "Decline this contract instead" link if it's not right for them.
How signing works (what your customer does)
- They open the Contract tab and read the document.
- They tick "I have reviewed this contract in full and agree to the terms."
- They sign — Draw with a finger/mouse, or Type their name — then add their Full name and Your email.
- They tap Preview signature, check it, and Confirm & Sign.
- They see a Contract Signed confirmation with their signature on the page.
Sign, decline, or counter
- Sign → the contract is marked signed, and your job moves to Signed in your pipeline.
- Decline → they click Decline this contract instead and can leave a short reason. You're notified, so you can follow up or send a revised version.
- Counter (ask for changes) → there's no "edit the contract" button for the customer. If they want different terms, they decline with a note or message you (Pro) — you adjust and send a fresh contract.
What happens next on your side
- A signed contract is filed against the job with the signer's name, email, and timestamp — your record of the agreement.
- If you've turned on "Require signed contract before invoice," the invoice step stays locked until this signature is in. Good for higher-ticket jobs.
- If you revise the quote after they signed, the customer sees an out-of-date notice on the old contract and is told to ask you for a new one — so a stale signature never rides along with a changed price.
Troubleshooting
- "This link has expired." The signing link timed out. Send a fresh contract and they'll get a new link.
- The Sign button won't enable. They need to tick the review checkbox and fill in both Full name and Your email first.
- They signed but the job didn't move to Signed. Refresh your jobs list. If it's still off, check the job's Activity/Timeline for the sign event.
- The PDF won't load for them. They can use the Download the PDF link under the preview to open it directly.

FAQ
- Is a typed signature legally binding? They confirm their typed name and signature count as a legally binding electronic signature before signing. The signer's own typed email is recorded — not whatever you had on file.
- Can someone sign on the customer's behalf? Yes — they enter the actual signer's name and email.
- Do they need an account to sign? No.
- Can they sign on a phone? Yes — drawing works with a finger.
- What if they decline? You're notified with their reason (if they left one). Nothing is locked — you can send a revised contract.
