Draft a quote (AI + templates)
Overview
Setell turns a job request into a real, priced quote. You can let it draft one for you — it reads the request and builds the line items — or start from a template you've saved. Either way you get a quote you can edit and send in minutes, not an hour with a calculator.
Before you start
- A job at the New stage (see
docs/quotes/create-job). - That's it. Setell prices from your own history when it has it, and sensible industry numbers when it doesn't.
How many quotes can I draft? Free plans get 3 AI drafts a month. Business gets 50 a month. Pro is unlimited. Revising a quote later does not use another draft — only the first draft of a job counts. See docs/account/plans.
Steps
- Open the job and click Generate Draft.
- Watch the quote build line by line, with a running total.
- When it finishes, the quote appears as v1, ready to review.
Prefer to start from a template?
- Click Use Template instead.
- Pick a saved template from the list. Setell fills the quote from it.
Draft Good, Better and Best options
Instead of a single quote, Setell can draft three priced options at once — a Good / Better / Best set — so the customer picks their level instead of just yes-or-no. Each tier is a full quote with its own line items and total, and one is marked recommended.
- In Studio, just ask — "give me good, better, and best options for this job." Setell drafts all three. There's no tiers screen in the app; this is a conversation, start to finish.
- Pick the one to send the same way — "go with the premium one." That tier becomes the job's active quote; from there you edit and send it like any other. See
docs/quotes/send. - Pick while the options are still current. If you've changed the underlying quote since generating them, ask for a fresh set.
- Generating a set of options counts toward your plan's quote drafts, the same as drafting a single quote.
- Driving Setell from your own agent? The same is available over MCP — see
docs/mcp/capabilities.
What happens next
- The job moves to Awaiting approval with a v1 quote.
- Each line shows where its price came from — your history, industry numbers, an AI estimate, or your own price. See
docs/quotes/edit-line-items. - From here you edit anything that's off, then preview and send. See
docs/quotes/send.
Troubleshooting
- "You've reached your quote limit." You've used up your plan's AI drafts. Upgrade for more, or draft from a template (templates don't use an AI draft). Free is 3 a month; Business resets each month too.
- The draft looks generic / prices look like guesses. Setell hasn't learned your pricing yet. It gets sharper after your first handful of signed quotes, and faster still if you connect QuickBooks (
docs/integrations/quickbooks). - Draft didn't start. Make sure the job is at the New stage and try Generate Draft again. If it still won't go, check your connection and reload.
FAQ
- Does revising cost another quote? No. Only the first draft of a job counts toward your limit. Revisions are free.
- Can Setell draft for me instead? Yes — just ask Setell "quote 50 brackets for Northwest Fabrication." Same engine, faster. See
docs/studio/draft-and-revise. - Will it ever send a quote without me? No. Drafting only builds the quote. Nothing goes to the customer until you send it.
- Can I draft from a template on a free plan? Yes — templates don't use an AI draft, so they're a good way to keep moving when you've hit the limit.
