Get your Setell email address

Overview

Give Setell an address of its own and your customer emails turn into jobs by themselves. You keep your normal inbox and your normal address — a copy flows to Setell, it reads the request, and the quote is already started when you look. Nothing to install, and no one has to email you somewhere new.

This is also the address the rest of the docs mean when they say "forward it to Setell" — a vendor price sheet, a spec, a drawing.

Before you start

  • 2 minutes.
  • Either an inbox you can add a forwarding rule to, or a domain whose DNS you can edit.

Get a forwarding address (most people)

  1. Go to Settings and find the Email intake card, under I already have a mailbox.
  2. Click Create my forwarding address. Setell gives you an address of your own — click to copy it.
  3. In your normal email, add an auto-forward rule pointing at that address. The card has step-by-step instructions for your provider.
  4. If you're on Gmail, Google sends a confirmation. The card shows you the code to paste back into Gmail's forwarding settings, and a one-click confirmation link when Google offers one.
You don't tell customers about this address and they never see it. They keep emailing you exactly as they do now.

Or point a domain at Setell

No mailbox to forward from? Under No mailbox?, type a dedicated subdomain — something like quotes.yourcompany.com — and click Set up domain. Add the MX record Setell shows you, and it receives that mail directly. Use a subdomain you don't already receive mail on.

What happens next

  • The card reads Verified once mail is actually arriving. Until then it keeps checking.
  • New emails land in your Inbox for a quick look before they become jobs — see docs/quotes/inbox-triage.
  • Setell reads each request and gets the quote started, so you open it already drafted.
  • Attachments come along for the ride. A spec, a drawing, or a photo on the email becomes part of the job — see docs/quotes/attachments.

Troubleshooting

  • The card still says it's waiting. Nothing has arrived yet. Send yourself a test email through your normal address and give it a minute.
  • Gmail is asking for a confirmation code. It's on the Email intake card — copy it from there into Gmail's forwarding settings.
  • It worked, then went quiet. Check that your forward rule is still switched on, or that your domain's MX record is intact. Rules get turned off by accident more often than you'd think.
  • Emails arrive but no job appears. They may be sitting in your Inbox awaiting your okay rather than auto-approved. See docs/quotes/inbox-triage.
  • Still stuck → docs/reference/troubleshooting.

FAQ

  • Do I have to connect Gmail instead? No. This path needs no account connection at all. Connecting a mailbox is a separate option if you'd rather.
  • Do my customers see this address? No. It's only ever the destination of your own forwarding rule.
  • Can I use this and the website form? Yes. Every inbound path feeds the same place.
  • Can I forward things that aren't customer requests? Yes — vendor price sheets are the common one. See docs/import/price-book.
