Let Setell build the parts list

Business+

Overview

On some jobs the price isn't the hard part — remembering everything the job takes is. Setell can propose the whole parts list for you, built from the jobs you've actually done. Parts that showed up together on similar work show up here, priced from your own numbers, each with a receipt for where the price came from.

You stay in charge of the list. Setell proposes; you keep, cut, and edit before any of it becomes a quote.

Before you start

  • The Business or Pro plan — this is part of pricing memory.
  • Some history to learn from: past Setell jobs, or QuickBooks history you've mined (docs/import/quickbooks-history).
  • A job to work on.

Ask for a parts list

  1. Open Studio on the job and ask — "what parts will this need?" or "build me the parts list for the Henderson job."
  2. Setell mines your similar past jobs, adapts what it finds to this job's scope, and comes back with a proposed list.
  3. Each part carries a price tag showing where its number came from — Your history, Your price book, Your purchases, Industry, or an AI estimate. See docs/quotes/edit-line-items.
  4. Go through it. Say what to drop — "lose the conduit and the second junction box" — or what's missing.
  5. When it's right, tell Setell to build the quote from it. The parts you kept become the line items.
Parts Setell has strong evidence for come through as required scope. Weaker ones come through as optional add-ons, so your customer sees them as choices rather than padding.

Save a list you'll use again

Run the same kind of job often? Once you've applied a parts list to a quote, tell Setell to keep it: "save that as my standard deck package."

Next time you ask for a parts list on that kind of job, your saved kit comes up as a ready starting point — re-priced from today's numbers, never the prices you saved it at. If the name is already taken, Setell tells you and asks before replacing it.

What happens next

  • The quote is a normal quote from here. Preview it, revise it, send it — see docs/quotes/send.
  • Turning the list down is useful too. When you say no, Setell remembers, and the next proposal on that kind of job reflects it.
  • Your kits show up even on jobs where Setell finds no close history to mine.

Troubleshooting

  • "There isn't enough history for this." Setell won't guess a parts list out of nothing. Import your past work first — docs/import/quickbooks-history or docs/import/spreadsheet — or build this one by hand.
  • The list is close but padded. Say what to cut. Cuts are the signal that sharpens the next one.
  • Prices on some parts say AI estimate. Setell had no better source for those. Set the ones you know and they'll come from your history next time.
  • "Proposals need the Business or Pro plan." See docs/account/plans.
  • I can't find it in the app. There's no button for this — it's a Studio conversation, and it's on the agent (MCP) surface too.
  • Still stuck → docs/reference/troubleshooting.

FAQ

  • Does this invent parts? No. It starts from parts that appear on your own similar jobs, then adapts them to this scope.
  • Does it price them? Yes, from your history and price book where it can — with the receipt shown so you can tell a real number from an estimate.
  • Can I save more than one kit? Yes, as many as you run.
  • Do saved kits go stale? The parts stay; the prices don't. Every kit is re-priced from current data when it comes back up.
  • Can my agent do this? Yes — it's on the MCP surface. See docs/mcp/capabilities.
