Set up your inbound
Overview
"Inbound" means letting the work come to you instead of typing every job in by hand. Setell gives you a few ways to do it, and they all feed the same place:
- Email intake — a Setell address you forward your normal inbox to. Nothing to install, and your customers change nothing. This is the one most people want:
docs/getting-started/email-intake. - A quote-request form — a branded link you can share, or embed on your website.
- Connect a mailbox — sign in with Google and let Setell read the requests directly.
- The Chrome extension — a Send to Setell button in Gmail, for pushing in one email at a time.
Pick one to start. You can add the others later.
Before you start
- 2 minutes.
- For the website form: access to edit your site, if you want it inline rather than as a link.
- For the Gmail button: Google Chrome and the Setell Chrome extension installed.
Option A — Share or embed your quote-request form
- Go to Settings and find Your Quote Form — the card headed Collect quote requests from your website.
- Click Show my quote form. Setell sets up your branded form and shows you its link.
- Copy link and put it wherever customers find you — your site, your signature, your profile.
- Want it inline on a page instead? Open Embed on your site (advanced) and use Copy embed code.
- Customers fill in their name, email, and what they need (with optional job details), then submit.
Option B — Add a "Send to Setell" button to Gmail
- In Settings, find the API Key card and click Create API Key.
- Copy the key right away — it won't be shown again. (Lost it? Click Rotate for a new one.)
- Install the Setell Chrome extension, open its popup, and paste your key, then Connect.
- In Gmail, open a customer email. Click the Send to Setell button in the toolbar to push it in as a job.
Option C — Let Setell receive your email
Two ways, depending on how you want to work:
- Forward to a Setell address. Nothing to connect, nothing to install. See
docs/getting-started/email-intake. - Connect your mailbox. In Settings, find the Gmail card and sign in with Google. Setell reads incoming requests — read-only, and you can disconnect from the same card at any time.
What happens next
- A new job appears in Setell from each submission or pushed email.
- Email that arrives on its own stops in your Inbox first, so you can approve it before it becomes a job. See
docs/quotes/inbox-triage. - Setell reads the request and gets the quote started for you, so you open it already drafted.
- You review, edit, and send — same as any quote. See
docs/getting-started/first-quote.
Troubleshooting
- A form submission didn't create a job. Open your form's own link first and submit a test. If that works, the embed on your site is pointing somewhere stale — re-copy it with Copy embed code.
- The Gmail button isn't showing. Refresh Gmail after installing the extension. The button sits in the email toolbar, next to actions like Archive and Delete.
- The extension says it's not connected. Open the extension popup and paste your key, then Connect. If it still fails, Rotate the key in Settings and paste the new one.
- I lost my extension key. It's only shown once. Click Rotate to make a new one — the old one stops working.

FAQ
- Do I have to connect Gmail? No. Connecting a mailbox is one option of several — forwarding to a Setell address needs no connection at all, and the form and extension need none either.
- Can I use more than one? Yes. They all feed the same inbox.
- Is the website form branded? Yes. The form Setell hosts carries your name, logo, and color, whether you share the link or embed it.
- What does the customer fill in? Name, email, and what they need — required. There's an optional Job details section for material, dimensions, quantity, and a deadline.
- Where do I find my key for the extension? In Settings, on the API Key card.
